In a move geared toward clarity and fairness, the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has unveiled the schedule for practical examinations, project assessments, and internal assessments for Classes 10 and 12 in winter-bound schools for the 2025 and 26 session. As seasonal weather and school closure make January impractical in many hilly and cold regions, CBSE has shifted the dates earlier: the window for these assessments will run from November 6 to December 6, 2025.

This new timetable applies strictly to “winter-bound” institutions. Schools following the regular (non-winter) calender will receive a separate circular outlining their assessment dates later. The board has also published detailed Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) to help schools ensure smooth conduct, including guidelines for appointing external examiners, uploading internal assessment marks, and timely dispatch of answer scripts to regional offices.

The decision acknowledges the logistical challenges in regions with harsh winter climates. Several schools in mountainous or snow-affected zones had difficulty running exams in January, and student attendence and examiner access often suffer. By shifting assessments earlier, CBSE aims to minimize disruption and maintain fairness.

Still, implementing the new schedule demand swift action by schools. Each institution must finalise its candidate list, submit it online, and coordinate with regional CBSE offices for external examiner allocation. Schools must also ensure that internal assessment for Class 10 is conducted only once and that marks are uploaded within the stipulated window.

For students, this means revising their prep plans. Instead of expecting practicals after the winter break, many will now face assessments just before year’s end. Teachers, too, will need to pace projects and internal evaluations earlier.

CBSE emphasizes that schools should strictly adhere to the notified dates and follow SOPs to avoid delays or invalidation of assessments. For further details, school authorities and students are urged to refer to the official circular posted on the CBSE website.

As winter looms, the early schedule gives breathing room but also demand sharper time management from all stakeholders in the education ecosystem.
