Veteran investor Ramesh Damani has shared a strong warning about how the rapid growth of artificial intelligence could change the future job market for young engineering graduates. According to him the so called easy jobs that students earlier managed to secure soon after graduation may no longer exist in the coming years. This change could especially affect students from top technical institutes who depend heavily on campus placements.
He explained that artificial intelligence is not a temporary trend but a long term shift in how companies function. Many organisations are now using advanced AI tools to perform tasks like coding testing and basic software development which were earlier handled by fresh graduates. As a result companies may reduce hiring at entry level roles.
For many years students with basic programming skills could expect jobs in software maintenance development or quality testing. However with AI systems doing similar work faster and cheaper these roles may shrink or completely change in nature. This could lead to fewer placement offers and more competition during campus recruitment seasons.
Damani also mentioned that while some traditional jobs may disappear new opportunities could emerge in different areas. He pointed towards the growth of Global Capability Centres in India which focus on analytics digital systems and specialised operations. These roles may still require human thinking and problem solving skills but students will need to prepare differently for them.
His comments have raised concern among students teachers and education experts. Many believe this is a wake up call for colleges to rethink how they train students. Instead of focusing only on coding education may need to include creativity adaptability and cross functional skills.
Experts feel that while machines can automate tasks qualities like judgement innovation and emotional understanding cannot be replaced easily. Students who continuously upskill and learn to work alongside technology may still find strong career paths. The message seems clear that future jobs will demand flexibility deeper understanding and readiness to evolve beyond traditional placement models.
