DU’s student wing manifestos promise inclusivity
With the Delhi University Students’ Union (DUSU) elections fast approaching on September 18, 2025, student political groups are outlining their priorities through manifestos that aim to address what many students feel are urgent concerns. Leading voices in this election ABVP, NSUI, and the SFI-AISA alliance are focusing on themes like affordability, accessibility, safety, and welfare.
The ABVP has made a strong start, claiming to have collected over 5,000 suggestions from students to shape its promises. Among their commitments: subsidised health insurance, enhanced support and resources for academic and cultural societies, upgraded sports facilities with nutritional assistance, and campus audits to ensure accessibility for all. Free Wi-Fi across campuses and assistance for final-year research students are also part of their plan.
The NSUI is addressing cost barriers and representation. Their manifesto proposes a monthly allowance of ₹5,000 for students with disabilities, greater inclusion of minority and North-Eastern students, and making campuses more barrier-free. They are also pushing for more resources for health and safety, including sanitary pad vending machines and support systems for marginalized students.
Then there’s the SFI-AISA alliance, which frames itself as “student-centric”. Their manifesto calls for resisting fee hikes, strengthening grievance procedures, elected internal complaints committees, gender sensitisation cells, and even menstrual leave. They have also criticized the dilution of core academic content through "value added" and "skill enhancement" courses, calling for restoring credit allocations and entrance-based evaluations.
Elections will be held in two shifts morning for day classes, evening for evening classes with vote counting scheduled for September 19. As polling draws near, students will be watching closely which promises hold and which groups can deliver.
