The West Bengal State Government has withdrawn its plan to adopt a UPSC-style detailed answer format for the WBCS exam. The previous exam pattern will continue,
The State Government on Wednesday (May 28, 2025) withdrew its earlier decision to change the West Bengal Civil Service (Executive) (WBCS) exam pattern. Instead of adopting a detailed answer format similar to the UPSC exams, the previous exam format will be retained, the government announced.
The Department of Personnel and Administrative Reforms stated that the two notifications proposing a UPSC-like syllabus and exam structure for WBCS have been put on hold. The exam syllabus and format will remain unchanged from what they were before these notifications were issued. This comes after the West Bengal Public Service Commission (WBPSC) had announced a significant revision of the WBCS exam pattern in September last year, to be implemented from 2025.
