In a major step toward modernising public education, the Uttar Pradesh government is rolling out over 2,700 smart classrooms across urban areas to improve learning outcomes in government schools. Of these, around 1,780 classrooms have already been made operational, enabling thousands of students, especially those from economically weaker sections, to access tech-enabled education. Officials say this initiative is not only improving classroom engagement but also contributing to higher enrolment and attendance rates in state-run schools.

The Urban Development Department, which is spearheading the project, has integrated smart classroom development under multiple schemes. The Smart City Mission accounts for 1,183 classrooms, with 1,088 already functional, backed by a budget of over ₹160 crore. The Kayakalp initiative has added another 190 classrooms with ₹57.66 crore in funding. Additionally, 913 classrooms have been sanctioned under the Aspirational Cities initiative, of which 408 are in use and the rest under construction. These digital classrooms come equipped with modern tools such as interactive boards, projectors, and internet connectivity to enhance the learning process.

To further strengthen the digital infrastructure, the state has also approved 398 classrooms under other schemes, including the CM Abhyudaya Composite School Scheme and Vaishvik Nagaroday Yojana. An extra ₹4.25 crore has been allocated under Kayakalp to support future developments. Principal Secretary of Urban Development, Amrit Abhijat, emphasized that the initiative marks a significant shift in the education landscape by ensuring that urban students, regardless of economic background, are equipped with digital skills. The government aims to sustain the momentum and make quality, tech-based education a standard across all urban government schools in Uttar Pradesh.
