At the PadhAI Conclave organized by CPRG, Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan called AI inevitable and vital for education reform, stressing India’s potential
Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan on Wednesday emphasized the inevitability and importance of AI during the 'PadhAI: Conclave on AI in Education' organized by the Centre of Policy Research and Governance (CPRG). He stated, "Like the internet, AI has become a fundamental necessity."
Speaking at the event, Pradhan highlighted AI’s transformative potential to revolutionize India’s education system. He noted that AI is a frequent topic of discussion in almost all higher education institutions across the country and called it both inevitable and essential.
Pradhan also pointed out how greater access to technology is empowering students, creating a “highway of empowerment” in their lives. He expressed confidence in India’s ability to harness AI effectively, emphasizing that the country’s human intelligence can turn emerging technologies into homegrown innovations.
Outlining the policy measures needed to adapt to this technological shift, Pradhan stressed the importance of building large-scale AI literacy and fostering innovation in AI. He praised CPRG for hosting this timely and crucial policy discussion.
Chamu Krishna Shastri, Chairman of the Bharatiya Bhasha Samiti at the Ministry of Education, also spoke at the conclave, underlining the need to strengthen the role of Indian languages within the AI ecosystem. He emphasized that AI should be purposeful and contextually relevant.
The two-day PadhAI Conclave brought together diverse perspectives on AI’s role in shaping the future of education in India. Speakers explored how AI is expanding learning beyond traditional classrooms, transforming higher education, and addressed challenges faced by current institutions.
CPRG, recognized by the Indian Council of Social Science Research (ICSSR), is a leading policy research think tank dedicated to promoting responsive and participatory policy-making. Its ‘Future of Society’ initiative has made it a prominent voice in technology policy discussions.
