Tripura launched location-based e-attendance in government schools to prevent transparency, accountability and fake attendance.
Taking an important step towards transparency and better administration in the education sector, Tripura has started e-attendance with GPS location sharing in government schools, this information was given by a senior official.
Under this new system, teachers and staff will have to enter their attendance online through a mobile app, which will also record their real time location. This system will ensure that employees are actually present in school.
The main objective of this initiative is to prevent fake or proxy attendance and decide that teachers and other employees are actually present at their workplace. Earlier manual attendance was taken, which featured rigging. Now both accountability and discipline will be encouraged through location sharing. Currently, this system has been implemented in some government schools and the state government is planning to implement it in all schools in a phased manner.
The Department of Education believes that this step will improve the quality of education positively as it will benefit the students regularly from the presence of teachers. This digital change is part of Tripura's comprehensive plan for e-governance and smart monitoring. This ensures that public resources are being used for the right purpose - ie providing quality education. Such changes help modernize traditional systems and increase confidence among citizens. This initiative can also become a source of inspiration for other states.
