Concerned over low NDA success, Maharashtra to review 38 Sainik Schools. A state-formed panel will assess poor academic and military training standards in these
The Maharashtra government has launched a performance review of 38 privately managed, government-aided Sainik Schools across the state. These institutions have come under scrutiny for failing to deliver satisfactory outcomes in academic achievements and military preparedness, especially in sending students to the prestigious National Defence Academy (NDA). A seven-member committee, led by the Joint Director of the State Secondary and Higher Secondary Board’s Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar division, has been appointed to conduct this review.
According to a recent Government Resolution (GR) issued by the School Education and Sports Department, these schools have shown minimal success in facilitating NDA admissions, one of the core goals of Sainik school education. The GR pointed out significant gaps in military training and mentorship, with students lacking the support necessary to qualify for armed forces selection. The committee is tasked with visiting the schools, identifying key challenges, and suggesting actionable reforms to uplift their overall performance. This initiative follows the rollout of a revised sainiki school policy in October 2024, which aimed to strengthen such institutions.
Currently, around 12,400 students are enrolled across the 38 Sainik schools under review. The findings of the committee are expected to influence long-term policy changes and set new benchmarks for academic and defence-focused education in Maharashtra. By initiating this review, the state government seeks to align its educational objectives with national defence requirements and student aspirations. The final report is expected to provide a roadmap for improving the quality of training and academics, reaffirming the state’s commitment to nurturing future defence personnel through better institutional support.
