Retired non-teaching staff of Karnatak University staged a protest on July 21 demanding timely pension disbursements and government support. They called for HRM
Objecting to irregular pension disbursements, members of the Karnatak University Retired Non-Teaching Employees’ Association and the Pensioners’ Association held a protest outside the university’s administrative office on July 21. Carrying placards, the retirees marched from University Circle to the admin building and staged a sit-in, asserting that pensions are a rightful entitlement, not an act of charity. They demanded timely pension payments, specifically by the first of every month.
Many protesters highlighted their complete reliance on pensions for medical needs, medications, and daily essentials, stating that delayed payments are causing severe difficulties. They blamed the Karnataka government for failing to provide grants to the university, which has left 1,800 retired staff members without their pensions. The demonstrators urged university authorities to take the issue up with the state government and push for a swift resolution. They called for the implementation of regular pension payments through the HRMS (Human Resource Management System).
Additionally, they appealed to the government to extend health benefits, release pending pension increments, and offer the same post-retirement privileges to university employees as are given to other retired government staff. The protest was led by association president G.S. Byadgi, along with S.G. Huded, M.V. Jalihaal, S.S. Kalaghatagi, N.M. Ansari, and K.D. Pujari.
