There’s some great news for students and researchers at the Central University of Tamil Nadu (CUTN) in Thiruvarur. The Education Ministry has green-lit a major upgrade approving Rs 385.27 crore in funding under the Higher Education Financing Agency (HEFA) to give CUTN a much-needed infrastructure boost.

This allocation is a clear response to longstanding challenges faced by CUTN, which has been operating with limited facilities since its establishment in 2009. Here's how the funding breaks down:

•Rs 96.40 crore for a new academic building

•Rs 46–47 crore each for new girls’ and boys’ hostels (300 beds each)

•Rs 42.60 crore for a 400-bed research scholars’ hostel

•A Scientific Instrumentation Centre, with Rs 19.95 crore, plus Rs 16.84 crore for precision instruments

•Rs 46.16 crore for admin block expansion

•Rs 62.97 crore to build staff and faculty quarters

According to university officials, this transformation couldn’t have come at a better time. The upgraded campus promises better residential options, modern labs, and a more nurturing environment for academic innovation ﹣a dream come true for a university long craving comprehensive infrastructure ﹣and announced just ahead of its 10th convocation, where President Droupadi Murmu is expected to feature ﹣adding an extra layer of significance to the development as shared by the Vice-Chancellor.

Essentially, with this Rs 385 crore investment, CUTN is poised to evolve from a modest regional institution into a model hub for research, learning, and campus life. Students, scholars, and staff all have reason to look forward to a campus that matches their ambition.
