Delhi University students rush nominations; 82 filed, 73 eligible, final candidate list expected today.
The Delhi University Students’ Union (DUSU) Elections 2025 are gathering momentum as the nomination process wraps up ahead of voting on September 18.
On the final day of nominations, a total of 82 applications were submitted for the four central panel posts. After scrutiny, 73 candidates were cleared to contest, while 8 nominations were rejected. The university is expected to release the official final list of candidates today, after all checks are completed.
This year, there's a notable change: students in their third year can now contest certain key posts like vice-president and joint secretary a shift driven by the National Education Policy changes that redefine which year counts as "final class". Voting for these central posts will happen by electronic voting machines (EVMs), while college-level councilor elections will use paper ballots.
Security has also been stepped up. On North Campus, over 175 security personnel police and paramilitary are deployed in key spots to ensure order during nominations and campaigning. Students say entry and campaigning feel more restricted than in past years.
With many students and parties preparing posters, speeches, and voter outreach, the election season feels intense. The stakes are high: leadership roles in DUSU often shape student voice, campus policies, and even future political engagement. All eyes will be on the final candidate list, and on September 18 when ballots will decide who leads the student union for the 2025-26 ELECTION.
