Delhi High Court disapproves of luxury cars in DUSU elections calls for student responsibility.
In a recent hearing, the Delhi High Court expressed strong disapproval over use of luxury cars during the Delhi University Students Union (DUSU) election campaigns. The court stressed that such displays is inappropriate for student leaders and undermine the essence of student politics. The bench questioned requirement of such extravagance and highlighted importance of balancing the prestige of student elections.
The court also remark came in response to a petition highlighting misuse of resources during the election period. The petitioner argued that use of expensive vehicles and other lavish displays not only violates principles of student welfare but also sets wrong precedent for future leaders.
The Delhi High Court has directed Delhi University administration to take immediate steps to ensure that such practices are certained in future elections. The court has also sought a detailed report on measures being implemented to promote ethical campaigning among student leaders.
This development has sparked a broader conversation about commercialization of student politics and need for reforms to uphold values of integrity and responsibility among student leaders.
