CBSE has clearly said that schools must regularly update student attendance and be prepared for inspection whenever it takes place.
Now, students must have at least 75% attendance to appear for the CBSE Board exams for classes 10 and 12. CBSE has issued strict instructions to all schools to ensure complete compliance with this rule. The decision was taken after it was found that some schools were not tracking students' attendance even after exam forms were submitted.
School affiliation may be revoked
CBSE has stated that schools must regularly update students' attendance records. If any discrepancies are found during inspections, the school’s affiliation could be revoked. Additionally, students with insufficient attendance may be barred from appearing in the exams.
Who can get relaxation?
Examination Controller Dr. Sanyam Bhardwaj stated that students with less than 75% attendance will not be allowed to appear in the exams. However, students with valid reasons such as medical emergencies or participation in major sports tournaments may be granted up to 25% relaxation.
Documents will be required
To receive this relaxation, students must submit all necessary documents to the school and the board on time. The exemption will only be granted if the school justifies and certifies the reason.
CBSE also directed that if a student is regularly absent from school, the school must inform the parents through a notice, email, or message.
Why was this decision taken?
Education experts believe that this move will instill discipline among students and encourage regular school attendance. It will also help curb fake or dummy admissions in schools.
