Raw Milk for Skincare: Natural Glow or Risky Trend? Here’s What Experts Say

Raw milk is trending again in skincare, thanks to Bollywood and Instagram influencers. Celebrities like Mira Rajput Kapoor and Shobhita Dhulipala praise its natural properties—lactic acid for gentle exfoliation, hydration, and acne mark reduction. But while raw milk may seem like a miracle product, dermatologists urge caution.

Experts agree it can mildly exfoliate and reduce acne due to its antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties. However, the benefits are mostly anecdotal. Dr Mahnaz Jahan Begum says it may help brighten the skin and boost collagen, but scientific backing is limited. Dr Pallavi Pandey and Dr Archana Batra add that although it may soothe and cleanse, it carries significant risks—especially for sensitive or acne-prone skin.

Raw milk is unpasteurised, meaning it can contain harmful bacteria like E. coli and Salmonella, leading to irritation, infection, or allergic reactions. Dr Vidushi Jain warns it can clog pores and worsen acne. Dermatologists agree: despite the natural appeal, raw milk poses more risks than benefits.

Instead of relying on viral trends, experts recommend sticking with dermatologist-approved products that are safer and scientifically tested.
