Congress MP Shashi Tharoor expressed disappointment with the Colombian government for offering condolences over the loss of lives in Pakistan following Operation Sindoor, instead of sympathizing with the victims of the Pahalgam terror attack. Speaking on Thursday (May 29, 2025), while leading a multiparty delegation to Colombia, Tharoor emphasized that India was exercising its right to self-defense.

“We were somewhat disheartened by Colombia’s response, which appeared to sympathize with Pakistani casualties after India’s strikes rather than with the victims of terrorism,” he said. “We want to make it clear to our Colombian friends that there can be no equivalence between those who send terrorists and those who resist them. There is no parity between attackers and defenders. India is only acting in self-defense, and if there is any misunderstanding on this fundamental point, we are here to clarify it.”

Tharoor added that India is willing to discuss the situation in detail, highlighting the evidence they have. He pointed out that the terrorist group The Resistance Front, linked to Lashkar-e-Taiba based in Muridke, Pakistan, claimed responsibility for the attack.

“Such acts of terrorism cannot go unpunished,” Tharoor said, explaining India’s decision to carry out strikes on terrorist infrastructure under Operation Sindoor. Speaking in Bogota, he recalled the April 22 terror attack and said the world condemned it, but no concrete action was taken, especially by Pakistan, where no arrests or prosecutions occurred.

He also shared images showing Pakistani military and police officials attending funerals of terrorists killed in India’s strikes, accusing Pakistan of providing safe havens for terrorist training. “One of the terrorists, who was on a sanctions list, had a widely publicized funeral attended by senior uniformed Pakistani officials. This clearly shows the extent of Pakistan’s complicity in supporting and harboring terrorists,” Tharoor stated.
