Senior Congress leader and Thiruvananthapuram MP Shashi Tharoor on Thursday admitted to having differences of opinion with certain members of the Congress leadership. However, he chose not to elaborate on the matter, citing the upcoming bypoll in Kerala’s Nilambur constituency. Speaking to the media in Thiruvananthapuram, Tharoor said he has maintained close ties with party workers for the past 16 years, whom he considers friends and brothers. Despite internal disagreements, he reaffirmed his commitment to the party's ideology and unity during election periods.

When questioned about his absence from the ongoing campaign for the Nilambur bypoll, Tharoor clarified that he had not been invited. Referring to similar past instances, including the Wayanad byelection, he said, “I do not go where I am not invited.” Nevertheless, he expressed his support for the United Democratic Front (UDF) candidate and wished for the success of party workers involved in the campaign. Tharoor also hinted that he may speak more openly about internal issues after the bypoll results are declared.

Responding to queries about his recent meetings with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Tharoor explained that the discussions were strictly related to Operation Sindoor and international delegation visits. Dismissing any political interpretation, he said, “No domestic politics were discussed.” Defending his role in the Centre’s mission, Tharoor emphasized his dedication to India’s foreign policy and national interest, irrespective of party lines. He clarified that his involvement was in line with his responsibilities as chairman of the Parliamentary Committee on External Affairs and that he acted as a responsible Indian citizen when called upon.
