In a serious security breach at Nagpur's Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar International Airport, a man was arrested for allegedly attempting to carry a country-made pistol and two live bullets in his luggage, police reported on Saturday (July 26, 2025). The accused, Anil Shrikrishna Porad, is the president of the Tribal Cell of a political party and a resident of Yavatmal in eastern Maharashtra, according to officials.
Porad arrived at the airport around 9 p.m. on Friday to board a flight to Delhi. During a routine baggage scan, CISF personnel detected a suspicious item in his luggage. Upon inspection, a country-made pistol (desi katta) and two live rounds were found inside the bag.
Airport authorities quickly informed the Sonegaon police station, and officers were dispatched to the location. Porad was taken into custody after he failed to provide a valid explanation for possessing the firearm.
He has been booked under relevant sections of the Arms Act. Authorities are continuing their investigation to determine his intent and how the weapon bypassed airport security protocols.
