In a shocking incident in Bodh Gaya, Bihar, a female aspirant for the Bihar Military Police (BMP)-3 recruitment drive fainted during a physical test on Thursday due to extreme heat and humidity and was allegedly gang-raped in an ambulance while being transported to a hospital. Two individuals have been arrested in connection with the case, which was registered at the Bodh Gaya police station based on a complaint filed by the survivor on Friday.

According to her statement, the woman alleged that three to four individuals sexually assaulted her in the ambulance on the way to Anugrah Narayan Medical College and Hospital (ANMCH) in Gaya. However, police have arrested two accused—ambulance driver Vinay Kumar from Gaya and technician Ajit Kumar from neighbouring Nalanda district—within hours of the FIR being lodged.

Bodh Gaya police station in-charge Manoj Kumar told The Hindu that the ongoing investigation has so far confirmed the involvement of only the two arrested individuals. The woman, a resident of the Imamganj area near the Jharkhand border, reportedly regained consciousness and realized the assault had occurred during her transport to the hospital.

Following the complaint, a Special Investigation Team (SIT) was constituted, and both accused were arrested swiftly. Senior Superintendent of Police Anand Kumar confirmed to local media that the SIT had examined CCTV footage and used technical surveillance during the investigation, which is still ongoing. The survivor is currently receiving medical treatment at ANMCH.

The incident has sparked intense political outrage. Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leader and Leader of the Opposition Tejashwi Yadav sharply criticized the Nitish Kumar-led Bihar government on social media, describing the state as being under “rakshas raj” (rule of demons) or “durachar raj” (rule of misdeeds). He blamed both Prime Minister Modi and Chief Minister Nitish Kumar for the deteriorating law and order situation and condemned the silence of ministers on such grave crimes.

Yadav further accused so-called intellectuals of caste-based bias, stating that if they remain indifferent to such incidents, they are “extremely casteist and discriminatory.”

Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas) president and Hajipur MP Chirag Paswan also condemned the incident and raised questions about the effectiveness of the State police under the current administration.
