During his visit to Gujarat, Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi expressed the Congress party’s commitment to revitalising its presence in the state, asserting that only the Congress can challenge and defeat the RSS and BJP. Speaking at a party workers’ convention in Modasa, Gandhi admitted that the party had been demoralised in Gujarat but vowed to initiate transformation from the state. He said internal reforms, including leadership changes, were necessary to overcome challenges.

Gandhi acknowledged issues like counterproductive rivalries among leaders and the exclusion of local voices in ticket distribution. He used a metaphor to illustrate the mismanagement of leadership roles, saying the party often sends the “wedding horse to the race and the racing horse to the wedding,” stressing the need to assign the right roles to the right people.

He emphasised decentralised leadership, stronger district-level connections, and identifying party members sympathetic to the BJP for removal. Gandhi added that this ideological battle had been ongoing for months in coordination with party chief Mallikarjun Kharge.
