Prime Minister Narendra Modi calls Operation Sindoor a decisive strike against terrorism and praises Sikkim’s achievements in organic farming, biodiversity, and
Prime Minister Narendra Modi, speaking virtually on Thursday (May 29, 2025), described Operation Sindoor as a strong and appropriate response to the perpetrators of terrorism in India. Addressing the 50th anniversary of Sikkim’s statehood, Modi stated that the entire country stands united in the battle against terrorism and condemned the Pahalgam terror attack as a crime against humanity.
Although he had planned to attend the celebrations in Gangtok, his visit was cancelled due to poor weather. Instead, he addressed the audience at Paljor Stadium from Bagdogra, West Bengal. “I had hoped to be in Gangtok for this milestone event, but weather conditions did not permit it,” he explained.
Praising Sikkim, Modi called the state a “source of national pride” and commended its people's commitment to democracy. He also reiterated the central government’s commitment to promoting sports across India, highlighting the Northeast and Sikkim’s potential in adventure sports.
Modi further lauded Sikkim's achievements in organic farming and increasing export capacity. Emphasizing infrastructure development, he mentioned that the Sevoke-Rangpo rail project would soon connect the Himalayan state with the broader Indian railway network. He also praised Sikkim’s biodiversity and its contributions to environmental conservation.
