On the night of May 6–7, India conducted surgical strikes on 9 terrorist camps in Pakistan and PoK under Operation Sindoor. The Indian Army specifically targeted the launch pads from where attacks on India were being planned. These strikes were carried out on nearly 900 terrorists affiliated with terrorist organizations like Jaish-e-Mohammed, Lashkar-e-Taiba, and Hizbul Mujahideen.

The operation was launched in response to the April 22 terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu & Kashmir, where 26 tourists were killed. The incident had triggered national outrage. Prime Minister Narendra Modi had made it clear that the terrorists would not be spared. Just 15 days later, India delivered this strong and strategic response.

The locations targeted in the attack:

  1. Bahawalpur (250+ terrorists) – Stronghold of Jaish-e-Mohammed
  2. Muridke (120+ terrorists) – Base of Lashkar-e-Taiba
  3. Muzaffarabad (110–130 terrorists) – Camps of both Jaish and Lashkar
  4. Kotli (75–80 terrorists) – Jaish and Hizbul Mujahideen presence
  5. Gulpur (75–80 terrorists) – Launch pad for infiltration
  6. Bhimber (60 terrorists) – Terrorist base
  7. Chak Amru (70–80 terrorists) – Terrorist base
  8. Sialkot (100 terrorists) – Terrorist base

India stated that the operation was highly targeted and precise. The government has concrete evidence that the Pahalgam attack was orchestrated by terrorists operating from Pakistani soil. Following the strikes, India also briefed several countries, including the United States. NSA Ajit Doval held discussions with American officials and informed them about India’s action and the reasons behind it.
