India Approves ₹63,000 Cr Deal for 26 Rafale Marine Jets to Boost Naval Power

India has approved a major government-to-government deal with France for the purchase of 26 Rafale Marine fighter jets, sources told India Today TV. Valued at over ₹63,000 crore, the agreement is expected to be finalised soon. The Indian Navy will receive 22 single-seaters and four twin-seater variants, along with fleet maintenance, logistical support, training, and offset commitments involving local manufacturing.

Approved by the Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS) led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Rafale Marine jets will be deployed on INS Vikramaditya and INS Vikrant, replacing the ageing MiG-29K fleet. Deliveries are expected to begin by late 2029 and conclude by 2031.

Designed for carrier-based operations, the Rafale M features reinforced landing gear, arrestor hooks, and STOBAR capabilities. The deal, executed via the inter-governmental route, ensures faster delivery and reliable maintenance from Dassault Aviation.

India is also expanding its naval strength with three new Scorpene-class submarines under Project-75, in collaboration with MDL and France’s Naval Group.
