Manish Ranjan, a section officer with the Intelligence Bureau stationed in Hyderabad, was among the 26 victims of Tuesday’s terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir. Originally from Bihar, he had traveled to the region on Leave Travel Concession (LTC) with his wife and two children, as per PTI sources. The family was visiting a popular alpine meadow when the gunmen opened fire, in what became one of the deadliest attacks on civilians in the Valley in recent years. Most victims were tourists, including families and newlyweds on their honeymoon.
Reports suggest the attackers allegedly singled out individuals and asked them to recite Islamic verses, killing those who couldn’t. Following the incident, Prime Minister Narendra Modi cut short his trip to Saudi Arabia and returned to India to receive updates. Home Minister Amit Shah also rushed to Jammu and Kashmir for an on-ground assessment and was briefed by top officials.
In response, Indian forces neutralized two terrorists in an encounter in Baramulla’s Uri Nala on Wednesday. The Indian Army stated the infiltration attempt was foiled during an ongoing operation.
