Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah has strongly denounced the recent terror attack in Pahalgam that targeted tourists, calling it a "barbaric and senseless act of brutality." The tragedy, which claimed 28 lives—mostly tourists—and left many injured, has triggered a wave of cancellations in what was once a bustling summer travel destination.
Expressing sorrow over the incident, Abdullah said it's "heartbreaking to witness the departure of our guests from the valley," while also acknowledging the public's concern for safety. He assured that the administration is facilitating controlled traffic movement from Srinagar to Jammu to help tourists leave safely. The Jammu-Srinagar NH-44 has been partially reopened for one-way traffic, and efforts are ongoing to clear stranded vehicles. Extra flights are also being arranged with the help of the DGCA and the Civil Aviation Ministry.
As a gesture of support, the J-K government has announced an ex-gratia of ₹10 lakh for the families of those killed, ₹2 lakh for the seriously injured, and ₹1 lakh for minor injuries. Abdullah reiterated his commitment to justice, asserting, "Terror will never shatter our resolve."
