Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari has announced a FASTag-based Annual Pass for private vehicles, set to roll out nationwide from August 15, 2025. Priced at ₹3,000, the pass will be valid for one year from the activation date or up to 200 trips, whichever comes first. The move targets non-commercial private vehicles such as cars, jeeps, and vans, aiming to simplify toll collection, reduce wait times, and improve travel convenience across India’s national highways.
The initiative is a response to persistent concerns from commuters, particularly those living within a 60-kilometre radius of toll plazas, who often face repeated charges for short-distance travel. To make the process accessible, activation and renewal of the pass will be available via the Rajmarg Yatra App and on the official websites of the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) and the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH). Gadkari noted that this dedicated system will ensure seamless digital payments and eliminate friction at toll booths.
Officials expect the policy to bring substantial relief to daily travelers by minimizing disputes, reducing congestion, and encouraging the adoption of digital infrastructure. By offering a unified and affordable toll solution, the government aims to modernize highway mobility and ease the burden on regular private vehicle users. This reform is part of the broader vision to build a smarter, faster, and more transparent road network, ultimately enhancing user satisfaction and operational efficiency across the country’s expanding highway system.
