Gaurav Taneja explains why the Delhi-Srinagar IndiGo flight faced danger, blaming poor planning and outdated radar systems.
Popular YouTuber and late commercial pilot Gaurav Taneja, also known as Flying Beast, recently analysed the disturb situation faced by a Delhi to Srinagar IndiGo flight. The aircplane experienced severe weather mid-air but was unable to divert through Pakistani airspace due to current geopolitical war tensions. This left the pilots with limited options and forced them to fly through extremely stromy condition.
In his YouTube video post, Gaurav praised the pilots for their calm and skillful handling of the crisis. However, he strongly criticized the decision to run the flight in such weather, saying the meteorological department should have provided earlier caution. He emphasized that pilots are trained never to fly into red zones on radar, which shows severe weather.
Using flight path visuals and maps, he explained why turning back to Delhi wasn’t practical and why flying over the storm isn’t an option either. Storm clouds can be as tall as 6,000 feet, and climbing that high consumes more fuel, break flight paths, and risks air traffic control obstacle.
Gaurav also bring up a technical issue: older radar systems only locate water droplets, not ice, dry hail, or sandstorms. This can lead to dangerous surprises, as likely happened in this case.
He urged airlines to review their safety policies and upgrade radar systems, enhance that flight safety should never be compromised.
