Kochi, May 27 — The Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) is poised to terminate two of its personnel following their alleged involvement in the murder of a 24-year-old youth, Ivin Jijo, in a shocking road rage incident in Nayathode, near Nedumbassery, on May 14. The accused—Sub-Inspector Vinayakumar and Constable Mohan Kumar, both deployed at Kochi airport and originally from Bihar—were arrested by Nedumbassery police shortly after the crime. A senior CISF official, under the condition of anonymity, confirmed that stringent disciplinary measures, including dismissal, are under active consideration.
The incident unfolded when a minor traffic-related altercation escalated into violence. The accused officers reportedly ran over the victim with their vehicle, leading to his death. Both individuals were immediately suspended from duty and are currently in police custody. A high-level internal investigation by the CISF is ongoing, with a focus not only on the prime accused but also on a possible third personnel suspected of aiding them post-incident. The CISF maintains that the disciplinary actions stem from its fundamental ethos of accountability and discipline, rather than public or media pressure.
While the CISF official expressed disbelief over the involvement of the two officers, describing them as generally calm and diligent, he acknowledged that external influences such as alcohol could have been contributing factors. He emphasized that the CISF has zero tolerance for any misconduct and does not support or protect personnel involved in criminal actions. Final decisions regarding the terminations will be taken once the internal probe concludes. Meanwhile, legal proceedings against the accused continue under charges of murder.
