BJP accuses West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee of ignoring Murshidabad violence victims due to religious bias. Calls for NIA probe amid ongoing unrest over Waqf Act
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Monday launched a scathing criticism of West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, alleging that she deliberately ignored the victims of the Murshidabad violence due to her "hatred for Hindus." Addressing a press conference in New Delhi, BJP spokesperson Sambit Patra said, "She hates Hindus," while responding to a question on Banerjee’s absence from Murshidabad following the violent clashes linked to protests over the Waqf (Amendment) Act.
Patra claimed that if Muslims had been targeted, Banerjee would have been protesting at the site. He also targeted the CPI(M), accusing the party of disowning two Hindu victims, allegedly their workers, solely based on religion. “They were communist workers, but no one from CPI(M) or TMC stands with them. Their only fault is that their names are Hargobind and Chandan,” he said.
The violence, which erupted on April 11, left two people dead and forced thousands to flee. Protests spread to districts like Malda and Hooghly. BJP state president Sukanta Majumdar visited the affected areas and supported calls for an NIA probe, criticizing Banerjee for allegedly pressuring authorities to send victims back to destroyed homes.
