Army Chief Launches e-Shradhanjali Portal

On Saturday, July 26, 2025, marking the 26th Kargil Vijay Diwas, Chief of Army Staff General Upendra Dwivedi inaugurated three key initiatives, including a digital platform that enables citizens to pay ‘e-shradhanjali’ to fallen soldiers.

The other two projects include a QR code-based audio guide that narrates the stories of the 1999 Kargil War battles, and the Indus Viewpoint, a new site that allows visitors to travel up to the Line of Control (LoC) in the Batalik sector.

Kargil Vijay Diwas, observed annually on July 26, commemorates India's victory in the Kargil War of 1999, when the Indian Army successfully completed Operation Vijay, reclaiming key high-altitude posts like Tololing and Tiger Hill after intense fighting lasting nearly three months.

An Army officer explained that the e-shradhanjali portal allows people to pay tribute to martyrs from anywhere, without needing to visit physical memorials. The initiative is designed to raise awareness about the sacrifices and challenges faced by Indian soldiers while safeguarding the nation.

The QR code audio gateway, similar to audio guides in museums, enables users to listen to detailed narratives of the battles fought during the Kargil War. Through this, visitors can learn about the bravery, courage, and dedication shown by the armed forces.

Another highlight of the launch was the Indus Viewpoint, a site near the LoC in the Batalik sector, which offers visitors a glimpse into the harsh conditions soldiers endure on a daily basis. This project aims to deepen public understanding of the risks and hardships involved in defending the nation.

Batalik, one of the primary theatres of combat during the Kargil conflict, lies at an altitude of over 10,000 feet. Strategically located between Kargil, Leh, and Baltistan, the area played a crucial role during the war. Today, the village situated along the Indus River valley has grown into a popular destination for tourists interested in India’s military history.
