First time flyer on Bengaluru-Varanasi flight mistakenly approaches cockpit door, security on alert
Incident under investigation after passenger en route to lavatory approached cockpit door on flight.
An incident in a Air India Express flight from Bengaluru to Varanasi (flight IX-1086) create alarm when a passenger reportedly approach the cockpit door during mid-air. According airline statement, the person was on first flight and claim confusion, believing the cockpit door was entrance to lavatory.
Air India Express clarified that safety and security protocol remains robust and was not compromise in the event. The airline further said after landing, matter was reported to relevant authority and is under investigation. The passenger, when confronted, quietly return after cabin crew intervene and explain the mistake. They was handed over to Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) as per standard procedure.
Some report, including in other media, suggest the passenger even try to enter cockpit by putting correct access code, though Air India Express not verified this claim independently. Pilots allegedly block the entry, fearing possible security breach.
This event follow closely on heel of another security-related anomaly: a Air India flight from London to Delhi was delayed when someone whose boarding pass got stamped attempt to enter aircraft gate but never boarded. That earlier incident cause a return to gate and two hour delay.
While there was no known harm or breach beyond the scare, it highlight sensitivity of cockpit security and importance of crew vigilance. The airline stress all required standards are operational, and awaiting the finding of ongoing inquiry.
