The Indian state of Kerala is set to officially be known as Keralam following approval for the proposed name change. The decision has sparked political discussions and public curiosity across the country. Senior Congress leader Shashi Tharoor responded to the development with thoughtful remarks. He questioned what real difference the renaming would make in everyday life, especially since the state is already called Keralam in Malayalam, the local language. According to him, symbolic changes should ideally bring meaningful benefits rather than just administrative adjustments.
Tharoor also raised a lighter yet interesting concern about how residents of the renamed state would be referred to in English. Would they be called Keralamites or Keralamians?
