A shocking incident in Indore on Friday afternoon left many residents shaken after an apparently drunk driver ploughed his Scorpio into several vehicles and pedestrians on the busy MG Road stretch. The SUV reportedly rammed into seven vehicles and injured four people before an angry crowd caught hold of the accused and assaulted him. Police later reached the spot, rescued the man and took him into custody for further investigation.
According to police officials, the driver identified as Gajanand Malviya was allegedly driving at high speed when he lost control of his vehicle near the Municipal Corporation intersection. CCTV footage from the area shows the Scorpio crashing into cars and two wheelers, while pedestrians tried to move away in panic. The injured persons were immediately rushed to a nearby hospital, where they received medical attention. Thankfully, officials said none of the injuries were reported to be life threatening, though the situation was very serious at that moment.
Eyewitnesses described the scene as extremely chaotic. Many said they heard loud crashing sounds and saw vehicles being pushed aside due to the impact. A shopkeeper nearby said it felt like complete madness as people screamed and tried to help those who had fallen on the road. Within minutes, a crowd gathered and confronted the driver.
Locals alleged that the driver appeared heavily intoxicated, which further angered people present at the scene. Some individuals pulled him out of the vehicle and assaulted him before police intervened. Authorities later conducted medical tests to check for alcohol consumption. Officials stated that strict legal action will be taken if the allegations are confirmed.
The accident caused heavy traffic congestion on MG Road as damaged vehicles were removed and debris was cleared. The incident has once again raised concerns about drunk driving and road safety in urban areas. Citizens are demanding stricter checks and stronger enforcement to prevent such reckless behaviour in future.
This disturbing episode serves as a reminder that one irresponsible act on the road can endanger many innocent lives within seconds.
