In a moment full of pride and promise, Prime Minister Narendra Modi flagged off Maruti Suzuki’s e-Vitara, India’s first fully homegrown Battery Electric Vehicle (BEV), from Hansalpur, Gujarat, on August 26, 2025. This isn’t just another car launch it marks India's leap into the global EV arena. The e-Vitara is now ready to hit the roads of over 100 countries, showcasing “Make in India” in its full glory.

What makes this day even more historical? With the launch of E- Vitara Modi inaugurated the local production of hybrid battery electrodes in India-which is an important component of EV construction. The production has begun at the joint venture plant of Toshiba, Denso and Suzuki. This development ensures that now more than 80% of the value of the battery will be manufactured at the domestic level, which will further strengthen the role of the country to create a future-oriented and self-sufficient EV ecosystem.

Gujarat's plant is emerging as a global hub for electric vehicles (EVS), which has the support of investment of $ 8 billion (Rs 70,000 crore) made by Suzuki in the coming 5–6 years. This investment will promote production capacity, new models and infrastructure, which will further strengthen India's position in sustainable automobile construction.

This launch is not limited to just one vehicle, but is a symbol of confidence, capacity and climate-conscious leadership. E-Vitara reflects the preparation of India, which is on the strength of innovation and indigenous strength to a clean and green future.
