Russia attacks Ukraine amid peace talks with the US.

Ukraine accused Russia of rejecting a US-backed ceasefire proposal on Wednesday, citing renewed strikes on civilian infrastructure just hours after Moscow agreed only to pause attacks on the energy grid.

Washington has been pushing for a 30-day ceasefire as a step toward ending the war, but in a call with US President Donald Trump, Russian President Vladimir Putin refused, insisting any deal required the West to halt military aid to Ukraine.

Despite this, Russia and Ukraine agreed to exchange 175 prisoners each. While Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky welcomed the energy truce, he sought more details from Washington.

Explosions and air raid sirens were reported across Ukraine after the Trump-Putin call. Zelensky condemned Russia’s attacks and stated, “Putin effectively rejected the ceasefire.” Meanwhile, Russian officials reported a Ukrainian drone strike on an oil depot.

Trump, seeking to fulfill his pledge to end the war, called the Putin talks “good and productive,” though Western allies remain skeptical. Germany and France reaffirmed military support for Ukraine, while front-line soldiers expressed doubt, questioning how they could trust an enemy that continues to attack civilians.
