The TMC government was criticized by the BJP for supposedly not fulfilling its constitutional duty to protect Hindus in the state.
Mamata Banerjee, the chief minister of West Bengal, came under heavy fire from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Saturday, which accused her of "supporting, inciting, and encouraging" the recent violent occurrences in the state during demonstrations against the Waqf (Amendment) Act.
The Trinamool Congress (TMC) government came under fire from the BJP for allegedly not fulfilling its constitutional duty to protect Hindus in the state, especially in the Murshidabad district, which is rife with violence.
BJP spokesperson Pradeep Bhandari said at a press conference at the party headquarters in Delhi that "the chronology is clear, that after CM Banerjee publicly stated that she would oppose the waqf legislation and her close aide and state minister Siddiqullah Chowdhury incited the mob by saying he is protected by the CM, the radical elements in the state received a message that they have Mamata Banerjee's backing."
Bhandari also charged that Mamata Banerjee was discriminating against the Hindu community by calling Sanatan Dharma a "bad religion." Bhandari questioned why the police had not taken action despite recurrent violent incidents in Murshidabad and previous intelligence tips.
"Despite intelligence and the recurrent violence in Murshidabad over the past few days, why haven't the state police taken any action? Mamata Banerjee wished to convey that appeasement politics are being tested in the state.
He further said that the violence is being utilized to divert attention away from the scandal involving the School Selection Commission (SSC).
"Our charge that Mamata Banerjee is inciting, supporting, and encouraging violence will be proven correct if she does not continue to protect Hindus," he continued.
