Following the passage of the Waqf( Amendment) Bill, huge demurrers were carried out in several metropolises including Chennai, Kolkata and Ahmedabad.
The Waqf Bill was passed in both the houses of the Parliament after heated debates and long conversations.
The revised bill was introduced by the government after incorporating suggestions from the Joint Parliamentary Committee that reviewed the interpretation tabled in August last time. It aims to amend the 1995 Act and enhance the governance and oversight of Waqf parcels across India.
The bill aims to ameliorate the effectiveness of the Waqf Board by incorporating technology in managing waqf records while also working on the enrollment process.
Union Minister Kiren Rijiju said the Waqf( Amendment) Bill will be renamed the UMEED( Unified Waqf operation commission effectiveness and Development) Bill.
