Uddhav Thackeray calls Eknath Shinde ‘gaddar’ over the Jai Gujarat row, mocking him with a Pushpa-style punch and accusing him of betraying Maharashtra’s pride
In a political drama that’s fast becoming personal, Uddhav Thackeray lashed out at Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, calling him a “gaddar” in the wake of the Jai Gujarat row. At a public rally, Thackeray didn’t mince words. “When ‘Jai Gujarat’ is shouted in the Maharashtra assembly and the Chief Minister stays silent, it’s not just about slogans. It’s about pride,” he said.
The controversy erupted after certain members reportedly raised slogans like “Jai Gujarat” in the Maharashtra legislature, sparking outrage among Shiv Sena (UBT) leaders. For Thackeray, it was more than a political stunt it was a betrayal of the state’s identity.
Taking it a step further, Thackeray mocked Shinde with a punchline inspired by the movie Pushpa. “You’re no Pushpa. You’re the one who bent first. Don’t act tough when you’ve already given in,” he said, drawing laughter and applause from his supporters.
The use of the word gaddar (traitor) wasn't casual. It highlighted deep wounds that haven’t healed since Shinde broke away from the original Shiv Sena and formed an alliance with the BJP. For Uddhav, this is not just political rivalry it’s personal loss and public betrayal.
The Jai Gujarat row has now become a flashpoint in Maharashtra politics. While Shinde has maintained a diplomatic silence, the public response shows that this issue has touched a nerve. As elections draw near, such exchanges are likely to intensify.
But beyond the drama and punchlines lies a deeper question how do leaders represent their state’s pride without turning every slogan into a battlefield?
