On Wednesday, July 9, the streets of central Hyderabad turned red as over 1,000 members of various trade unions—including the Centre of Indian Trade Unions (CITU), Trade Union Centre of India (TUCI), and All India United Trade Union Centre (AIUTUC)—participated in a protest rally opposing the central government’s alleged anti-worker policies. The demonstration was part of a nationwide 24-hour general strike organised by ten central trade unions.

The rally kicked off from Baghlingampally, with union members, daily wage workers, and activists chanting slogans demanding the proper implementation of Labour Acts and stronger protections for workers’ rights. Many participants rode two-wheelers in pairs, waving union flags as they made their way through key roads in Chikkadpally.

Chikkadpally ACP L. Ramesh, who supervised security arrangements, confirmed that the protest had official clearance and proceeded peacefully. “The rally concluded without any untoward incidents and ended at Indira Park. Personnel from Gandhinagar and Chikkadpally police stations managed security along the route, while Domalguda police handled the final stretch,” he said.

In a related protest, CITU members also organised a bike rally and held a sit-in demonstration outside the Sangareddy district collector’s office.
