The World Resources Institute report described the Taj Mahal as risks surrounded by risks like floods, pollution and water crisis.
In a recent shocking report, the World Resources Institute (WRI) has included the Taj Mahal in the global heritage sites facing water crisis. This famous marble building, one of the seven wonders of the world and is also a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is now in the grip of dangers such as floods, water scarcity and pollution - which has a major role of climate change and disorganized water management.
The foundation of the Taj Mahal located on the banks of the Yamuna River in Agra and the surrounding environment are constantly being affected due to changing water flow, decreasing groundwater levels and polluted river water. This report of WRI examined more than 10,000 heritage sites around the world through satellite imagery, water data and climate analysis.
The report warns that the water crisis in today's time has become one of the biggest threats to cultural heritage sites, which affects not only their structure, but also tourism, local life and historical value. Apart from the Taj Mahal, famous places like Angkor Wat of Cambodia and Venice in Italy are also included in this list. Experts have emphasized the need to adopt protection and sustainable water management measures immediately. Governments will have to strengthen water structure, control pollution in rivers and improve drainage systems to save these heritage.
The inclusion of the Taj Mahal in heritage sites surrounded by water crisis is a warning for India and the world. If action is not taken in time, then the coming generations will be able to see them only in books and pictures.
