On 15 August 2025, India celebrated its 79th Independence Day, in which Prime Minister Narendra Modi gave his longest speech from the Red Fort so far - a call for 103 minutes of vision, resolution and unity.

The Prime Minister outlined ambitious plans: “Made-in-India” semiconductor chips by year-end, expansion in defence manufacturing, a push for renewable energy, and stronger EV production. He praised the armed forces for Operation Sindoor, India’s precise counter-strikes after the Pahalgam terror attack, and warned that “blood and water cannot flow together,” hinting at reviewing the Indus Water Treaty.

Economic reforms remained prominently, including a decrease in GST rates till Diwali and the introduction of the Pradhan Mantri Developed India Employment Scheme, which aims to create employment opportunities for the youth through encouragement and subsidy. Modi also highlighted the progress in technology, announced the plan of Indian space station and "Sudarshan Chakra Mission" - a modern defence shield. His speech was a balanced mix of honouring the sacrifices of India's past and motivating collective action in the direction of self sufficient, developed India by 2047.
