SKM and BKU (Ugrahan) Refuse Punjab Govt's Meeting Amid Farmer Protests Crackdown

SKM and BKU (Ugrahan) declined to participate in a meeting held by the Punjab government to mediate talks amid the ongoing farmer protests.

Amid the crackdown on protesting farmers by the Punjab Police, the Samyukt Kisan Morcha (SKM) and Bharti Kisan Union (Ugrahan) [BKU (U)] on Friday, refused to participate in a meeting called by the state government.

Slamming the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) for police action, the farmer body wants to have a conducive environment for further discussions on the matter and the release of the detained protestors.
The SKM also announced to postponement of its march to the assembly on March 26.
The Punjab government has invited the SKM and BKU (Ugrahan) for a meeting with agricultural minister Gurmeet Singh Khuddian on Friday. 

BKU (Ugrahan) president Joginder Singh Ugrahan said while the body favors talk, “the question arises whether having the meeting under these circumstances is right?”

The meeting was however attended by farmer leaders Darshan Pal, Harmit Singh Kadian, Raminder Singh Patiala, Ruldu Singh Mansa, and Jangveer Singh Chauhan.
