“Shocked and Devastated”: Aviation Minister Reacts to Air India Crash in Ahmedabad

Union Civil Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu called the Air India plane crash in Ahmedabad "shocking and devastating," following the tragic incident involving flight AI 171 that crashed shortly after take-off. The Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner was en route to London with 232 passengers and 10 crew members on board. The minister stated that all emergency and aviation response teams had been immediately activated.

Naidu, who is personally monitoring the unfolding situation, has briefed Prime Minister Narendra Modi and is heading to Ahmedabad to oversee the ongoing rescue and relief operations. “We are on the highest alert. I have directed all agencies to act swiftly and in coordination,” he said in a social media post. Medical aid and ambulances have been rushed to the site, and initial reports confirm some injured have been moved to nearby hospitals.

In an official statement, the Aviation Ministry emphasized that the Prime Minister has instructed Naidu to ensure all necessary support is extended and to provide continuous updates. The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has confirmed that the aircraft was flown by experienced pilots. Air India has issued a helpline and is coordinating with families. The aviation minister reaffirmed his commitment to ensuring all affected receive timely assistance and said that a full investigation will follow.
