Amid growing unease around election transparency, Rahul Gandhi has taken to his “vote theft” campaign with a sharp dose of satire. Today, he shared a fresh video landing squarely on the Election Commission’s doorstep featuring a parody clip from the Hindi film Laapataa Ladies, mocking alleged mismanagement and igniting public debate.

In the video, a scene recontextualizes the phrase “Chori chori, chupke chupke…” (“secretly, on the sly…”) to accuse the poll body of silently undermining democracy. Gandhi frames it as an urgent call to action, saying the public has awakened to these malpractices.

This witty adaptation enters the political fray just as Congress ramps up its campaign for accountability. Previously, Gandhi also released a detailed video outlining data from internal investigations pointing to electoral irregularities. That message “Theft of your vote is theft of your rights” has clearly struck a chord.

The strategy is clever: blend entertainment with activism. The parody grabs attention, while the data underscores demand for transparency. It’s as much about grabbing eyeballs as it is about safeguarding ballots.

But it also heightens political tension. The Election Commission, faced with such direct critiques, may have to respond, and voters find themselves pulled into a larger conversation on electoral fairness.

Whether you agree or not, one thing’s clear Rahul Gandhi’s newest move uses humour to spotlight democracy. All eyes now shift to how the Election Commission and public will react.
