In a sharp critique of the Congress, Prime Minister Narendra Modi slammed the party for opposing the Waqf (Amendment) Act, accusing it of appeasing Muslim fundamentalists. He questioned why the Congress hasn’t elected a Muslim president or reserved 50% of election tickets for Muslim candidates, claiming the party's opposition to the new law reflects its intent. Speaking at the inauguration of Hisar airport in Haryana, Modi also honored Dr. BR Ambedkar, emphasizing that his government's policies were inspired by Ambedkar’s vision of equality.
Modi criticized the Congress for using the Constitution to maintain power during the Emergency and failing to implement a uniform civil code. He also claimed that Congress had undermined Ambedkar’s legacy, marginalizing him during his life and erasing his memory after his death. On the Waqf law, he argued that Congress’s policies had enriched a few land mafias, leaving the Muslim community in poverty. He said the new amendments would ensure social justice by protecting the land rights of Dalits, tribals, and Pasmanda Muslims.
Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge responded, highlighting that the BJP had yet to adopt Ambedkar’s principles in governance.
