The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) conducted a review meeting on July 1, 2025, to assess preparations for the upcoming Amarnath Yatra, which begins on July 3. The focus was on evaluating the condition of highway surfaces, road markings, safety measures, and the readiness of quick response teams. A comprehensive assessment was conducted for the entire 228-km Jammu-Srinagar stretch of NH-44, which falls under NHAI’s jurisdiction and forms a key part of the pilgrimage route. The Amarnath shrine is located in the Anantnag district of Jammu and Kashmir.
NHAI Chairman Santosh Kumar Yadav underscored the importance of ensuring safety and comfort for both pilgrims and general commuters. Member (Technical) Alok Deepankar instructed field teams to deploy sufficient manpower and equipment to deal with possible emergencies, such as heavy rains, landslides, or flash floods. He also urged speedy completion of under-construction sections along the route.
As part of its support efforts, NHAI, through Quazigund Expressway Pvt. Ltd., provided five ambulances to hospitals in Ramban and Anantnag districts. These were flagged off by Jammu & Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha.
The meeting was also attended by Bhupinder Kumar, Secretary of PWD J&K, Ramban Additional Commissioner Shokit Mattoo, ACR Ramban, and NHAI officers from field offices in Jammu and Kashmir.
