National Taekwondo Player Alleges Gang-Rape in Kanpur Ashram, FIR Registered

A national-level Taekwondo player from Kanpur has accused four men of gang-raping her inside an ashram in January.

A 30-year-old woman, who is a national level Taekwondo player, has accused by four men of sexually assaulting her inside an ashram in Kanpur’s Govind Nagar area. The incident reportedly occurred in January but came to light only recently after she filed a complaint and met with senior police officials.

According to the survivor, she used to run a small second-hand clothes stall in the local Govind Nagar market every Tuesday. She claimed that an elderly man from the neighborhood approached her with an offer to help her find a permanent space for her shop. He allegedly asked her for ₹4,000 and told her he would introduce her to some influential people at a nearby ashram who could assist her.

On January 28, trusting his words, she agreed to visit the ashram. Once there, she was offered a sweet (laddoo), which she believes was mixed with sedatives. After consuming it, she lost consciousness. She alleged that during this time, the elderly man, the head priest of the ashram, and two others took advantage of her. She further claimed that they recorded a lewd video of her and later threatened to release it online if she spoke out.

After staying silent for months, the survivor finally approached the Deputy Commissioner of Police (South) and narrated her ordeal. Following her complaint, an FIR was registered at the Govind Nagar police station. The police have confirmed that a video related to the case is being examined. They also inspected the place at the ashram seen in the footage.

Meanwhile, the accused priests have denied the allegations, saying they were in Prayagraj attending the Kumbh Mela at the time. They have given photos and videos as proof. The investigation is ongoing. The survivor’s identity remains protected, in line with Supreme Court guidelines.
