A devastating fire, reportedly sparked by a transformer during a storm, destroyed around 200 houses in Tappa Jamni village, Budaun district, Uttar Pradesh, officials confirmed on Thursday, May 22, 2025. Local sources said the fire broke out on the night of May 21, forcing villagers to flee for safety. One person sustained burn injuries and was admitted to the community health centre in Ujhani. Several cattle were also reported dead in the incident.
Authorities said the fire spread rapidly, and by the time firefighters and police arrived, nearly 200 homes had been reduced to ashes. District Magistrate Avnish Kumar Rai stated that while no human lives were lost, the fire, which occurred during a storm, caused significant damage. “One person was injured, and reports indicate that many cattle perished. We will evaluate the total loss and ensure that those affected receive compensation. Assistance will be provided to all whose homes have been damaged,” he assured.
