CM Mohan Yadav says his government will follow court orders despite demands for Minister Vijay Shah’s resignation over objectionable remarks on Colonel Sofiya Q
Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav stated that his government has complied with court orders and will continue to do so regarding the controversial remarks made by Minister Vijay Shah about Colonel Sofiya Qureshi. His comments come amid rising calls for Shah’s resignation, who serves as the Tribal Affairs Minister.
Yadav criticized the Congress party, saying it has no moral authority to demand Shah’s resignation and suggested they should first call for the resignation of Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah. “Our government has acted as per the judiciary’s directives and will keep doing so,” Yadav told reporters on Thursday during the BJP’s Tiranga Yatra event in Bhopal.
Responding to Congress’s demands, Yadav remarked, “Congress will keep demanding, but they should focus on Siddaramaiah instead.” He accused Congress of hypocrisy, pointing out their support for former Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal even when he was imprisoned, questioning Congress’s right to criticize.
The controversy began when Shah made inflammatory remarks at a public event in Indore on May 12 without naming Col. Qureshi but implied she was connected to terrorists. The Madhya Pradesh High Court took suo motu action, ordering an FIR against Shah, which was registered the same night.
The Congress and BJP veteran Uma Bharti have both demanded Shah’s resignation. Col. Qureshi rose to prominence after revealing details about ‘Operation Sindoor’ at a press conference with senior officials.
Following the backlash, Shah apologized, saying he was willing to apologize multiple times if anyone was offended and stated he respects Colonel Qureshi more than his own sister.
