On Friday, July 4, 2025, Kolkata Police officers took the four individuals arrested in connection with the gang rape of a college student to South Calcutta Law College to reconstruct the crime scene, an official confirmed.
The accused — former student and contractual staff member Monojit Mishra, current students Pramit Mukherjee and Zaib Ahmed, and security guard Pinaki Banerjee — were brought to the campus around 4:30 a.m. The reconstruction process, which lasted approximately four hours, was conducted under heavy police presence. "Reconstructing the crime scene is a crucial part of the investigation, and we completed that today," a police officer told PTI.
After the process, the four accused were taken back to the police station. Authorities will now compare the findings from the reconstruction with the survivor's complaint and other pieces of evidence, the officer added.
The security guard, whose police custody ends on July 4, is expected to be produced in court later in the day. According to the 24-year-old victim’s complaint, the assault was orchestrated by Mishra and aided by the two senior students. The attack occurred on the evening of June 25 and reportedly lasted over three hours, spanning multiple locations within the college premises, including the guard’s room.
The case is being investigated by the Detective Department of the Kolkata Police. Medical reports and circumstantial evidence have supported the allegations made by the first-year student. The security guard has also been charged with negligence in failing to perform his duties.
