Jammu & Kashmir CM Omar Abdullah expresses hope for tourism revival post-Pahalgam terror attack, assures enhanced security for visitors and rising tourist footf
Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Thursday (July 10, 2025) expressed optimism about the revival of tourism in the Union Territory following the devastating Pahalgam terror attack that claimed 26 lives, mostly of tourists. Speaking at a travel and tourism event, Abdullah said there is renewed hope and positivity on the ground, as tourism begins to recover.
“2025 has been a difficult year for us, clearly split into ‘before and after’ the Pahalgam incident,” he noted. “But tourism is rebounding in J & K, and there's a sense of a fresh start,” he added. He also acknowledged the enduring bond between West Bengal and J & K, highlighting the support the region has received both politically and economically.
Emphasising that every precaution has been taken to ensure the safety of visitors, Abdullah urged people to hear from recent tourists who have safely returned from Pahalgam. He said tourist movement to the area has resumed, and the ongoing Amarnath Yatra is a sign of returning to normalcy.
“There’s been a noticeable rise in direct flights to J & K, and we’re conducting security audits at certain locations to ensure a safe experience for all visitors,” Abdullah said, adding that his visit to Kolkata was aimed at promoting the region as a secure and attractive travel destination.
